Shayne Hayes

International Game Developers Association Climate Special Interest Group
Shayne Hayes is a Co-Chair of the International Game Developers Association Climate Special Interest Group (IGDA Climate SIG), an online community of game developers who are passionate about sustainability and climate action in the games industry. Shayne recently worked with the Atlantic Council's Arsht-Rock Resilience Center to publish Heat Wave Survival and Power Grid Hero for Minecraft Education. These free games built on Minecraft's platform help players understand how to stay safe during heat waves and other climate impacts by advocating for community-level action. Shayne developed additional social impact content for Minecraft Education, including Minecraft Hour of Code: Escape Estate, UNESCO's Minecraft Peace with Nature Challenge, and Minecraft Buildability. Shayne recently spoke at the 2024 Game Developers Conference Climate Crisis Workshop and Gamescom Latam's Journey stage about how games are uniquely positioned to equip players of all backgrounds with knowledge and skills around climate change that could be life-saving.
